OutlineMap technical information

A workspace or project file is supplied.

Suitable for scales on screen in the range 1:1,000,000 to 1:200,000.

A georeferencing file positions the image.

The nominal scale of the image is 1:1,000,000 (about 1 inch to 16 miles) and the resolution is 11.8 dots/mm (300 dpi). Each pixel represents 84.7m square.

The colour image uses a 4-bit palette of 16 colours. These are web-safe colours that avoid dithering if you use any computer set to 256 colours or more. The edges between adjacent colours are slightly softened to improve the appearance. LZW compression is used.

This data product is based on the Ordnance Survey graphic data set used for OS Route Maps.

The British National Grid co-ordinate system is used.

The storage space required is about 4.5Mb in total for full GB coverage in MapInfo TAB & TIFF format.

Main formats available: TIFF, JPEG, EPS and others, along with georeferencing files for use in GIS.
