FME (Feature Manipulation Engine)
FME is an integrated collection of Spatial ETL (Extract, Transform and Load) tools. FME is a complete interoperability solution, eliminating barriers and enhancing data sharing capabilities.
- Extract - Data is read from a specified source datastore;
- Transform – The acquired data is processed and transformed, perhaps combined with other data and then packaged into the correct structure;
- Load – The data is written into the target datastore.
FME consists of three primary components: FME Universal Translator, FME Workbench and FME Universal Viewer.

Interoperability
FME can also be accessed directly within numerous market-leading GIS applications such as those from MapInfo, Autodesk and ESRI.

Support for a gallery of GIS, CAD and database formats: Formats supported include MapInfo, ArcGIS Geodatabase, ArcSDE, Oracle Spatial, Intergraph GeoMedia and many more. View the latest list.
Data transformation: Within Workbench, transformers provide powerful ways to transform data as it moves from the source format to the destination format. Transformers can manipulate feature attributes and geometry.
Coordinate conversion support: Choose from a gallery of thousands of co-ordinate systems based upon a variety of different projections, ellipsoid and datums or define your own custom co-ordinate system.
