Flexible licensing options to FME are offered to meet your specific spatial ETL requirements. FME software can be licensed on a single fixed (node locked), floating (concurrent) or hardware locked basis.
An Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC) is included in the product price for the first year.
Single-Fixed Licence (or Node-Locked Licensing)
A single-fixed FME licence will work on only one specific computer. The registration wizard generates a unique registration key for this computer, and Dotted Eyes uses this registration key to create the licence file. Therefore, if you install the same FME licence file on a different computer, FME will not run. A new licence is required if the hard drive is reformatted, or if FME is installed on a new computer. (Please note that when FME is installed on a new computer, FME must be uninstalled from the old computer to comply with the licensing agreement).
Example scenario: Two users in your team need to use FME. Each person has his own computer. Two single-fixed licences are required.
Note: This licence type is not supported on Citrix systems or in situations where a mapped network drive is being used in place of a local C drive. See floating licences.
Available for: FME Desktop
Floating Licence (or Concurrent Licensing)
A floating licence enables a number of concurrent users to simultaneously access a single FME deployment. FlexLM software is installed on a machine that acts as a licence server by issuing a licence to any client computer that requests one. If the number of user requests exceeds the number of floating licences purchased, a user will need to wait until one of the active FME users closes FME on their computer so that the FME licence is returned to the licence server.
Example Scenario: Ten people need to use FME but it is likely that only five people will need to be using the software at the same time. FME is installed on each user’s computer. Any workstation can run FME, but a maximum of five workstations can access FME at any one time. If a sixth person tries to use FME, he will have to wait until one of the first five users has finished using the application.
Available for: FME Desktop and FME SpatialDirect
Hardware-Locked Licences
A hardware-locked licence is locked to a hardware-key (or dongle). You can install FME on as many computers as you like, but FME can only be run when a hardware-key is attached to the computer.
Example scenario: You may have an office workstation, but use a laptop computer when you are traveling. You need to run FME on both but never at the same time. You therefore purchase a hardware-locked licence. FME can be installed on both computers, but only run on the one with the dongle plugged in.
