Dotted Eyes loader for OS VectorMap Local

ScalerMap Loading Services are now available from Dotted Eyes to translate OS VectorMap™ Local into ESRI, MapInfo or Autodesk files. ScalerMap is ideal for internet mapping, and lightweight mobile applications, overlaid with your own data.

ScalerMap enhances OS VectorMapLocal – a flexible data set based on the most detailed mapping available from Britain’s national mapping agency. This enables precise and rapid location of incidents.

Dotted Eyes converts the data set supplied by Ordnance Survey into popular formats, ready for use in GIS or CAD software. Cartographic styling is provided for widely-used GIS and web mapping systems. This unique approach saves time and money in translation and maintenance.

ScalerMap is designed for use in web mapping and GIS or CAD software. Its styling is consistent throughout a wide range of scales, from 1:1,000 to 1:1,000,000. The cartography displays as much information as possible while ensuring the map is easily legible. Its appearance is readily configurable to suit particular applications.

·         ScalerMap Tiled Service Processes the exact area you require, made up of 5km square tiles. You can benefit from a single point of contact, because Dotted Eyes can supply ScalerMap, with licensing options from a single user to a corporate licence. We’ll obtain OS VectorMap Local data on your behalf and you’ll receive the finished product ready to use. Alternatively if you already have the OS data set, we can load and enhance all your tiles.

·         ScalerMap Custom Service Combines all the tiles covering an area such as the Government Office Regions or Ambulance Services in England. Building numbers are added, based on the National Land and Property Gazetteer (NLPG) or the OS MasterMap Address Layer (AL2), using a fle of points provided by the customer. In the custom service we can produce both vector fles and the raster images which are required by certain Command and Control systems for the fastest possible drawing speed.

As part of our loading service, value-added features are created, including cartographic hachures for slopes and colour-coded areas for roads, railway track beds and tunnels.

For more information, view the ScalerMap web page, download the infosheet or contact info@dottedeyes.com

Liverpool Direct sign up for Contractor Portal

Liverpool Direct, the joint venture company formed by Liverpool City Council and BT, is one of the first customers to sign up for Contractor Portal, the web application for local government organisations that simplifies the distribution of Ordnanace Survey and other datasets to their contractors.

Brian Jones, Geodata Team Manager at Liverpool Direct, said: “Whenever a contractor has to use Ordnance Survey mapping they need to apply for a licence. That requires the contracting body to source and exchange the data and manage the licence application.

“Contractor Portal completely automates that process as it enables the contractor to self-serve.

“We anticipate considerable efficiency savings being generated from this avoidance of contact with contractors. The lighter touch minimises the amount of resource required from my team, freeing us up to do a lot more of our business critical, internally driven GIS work.

“On top of that we will be supplying a much more reliable service that can turn round requests a lot more quickly than before.”

For more information, register for our webinar on 25th September at 10AM or telephone us on 01527 556920.

Contractor Portal simplifies data sharing for local authorities

We’re delighted to announce the launch of Contractor Portal, a web application for local government organisations that simplifies the distribution of Ordnance Survey and other spatial datasets to their contractors.

Local authorities carry a significant workload when distributing datasets including preparation and completion of paperwork, selection and processing of datasets, timely distribution of the completed data cutouts and compliance with strict licensing terms.

Contractor Portal provides an automated, audited workflow that streamlines the entire licensing and ordering process. It enables contractors to access data on a self-service basis and allows authorities to manage their data distribution through a real-time console.

For more information contact us on 01527 556920 or register for our webinar on 25th September at 10AM.

Dotted Eyes spatial data supports swine flu pandemic planning

NHS emergency planners in Bristol and the Avon region are developing their swine flu pandemic response strategy with spatial data from Dotted Eyes.

The work involves four primary care trusts and is part of a national drive to co-ordinate the distribution of antiviral stocks in the event of a major disease outbreak.

Dotted Eyes data has been used to identify the optimum number and locations of antiviral collection points. Key factors are population statistics and travel times to community pharmacies.

Trevor Foster, GIS Manager at the Avon IM&T Consortium, said: “We took the geographic spread of collection points and performed travel time analysis using TrafficMap, a road network dataset. We determined drive times using road speed parameters in conjunction with RouteFinder software.

We were able to generate zones to identify how accessible the collection points were from the road network. That has allowed us to see where there is a need for more centres.”

As a direct result of the GIS support, the emergency planners have agreed the need and locations of several additional centres to bolster capacity in the Avon region. Overall capability will include community pharmacies, hospitals and other NHS sites.

Dotted Eyes Managing Director Benjamin Allan said: “This is a prime example of the power of GIS to support vital strategic decisions on resource priorities in the NHS. Presenting data in a spatial way can bring an on-the-ground scenario to life in a way that spreadsheets or narrative reports cannot.”

As well as TrafficMap, the GIS analysis has involved the postcode point product MailerMap and various scales of Dotted Eyes raster mapping including 1: 10,000 scale boundary data.

The mapping datasets are available to healthcare organisations across England

Ambulance contract marks third major public sector win for Dotted Eyes

Ambulance crews responding to emergencies across Wales are to use critical address and vehicle routing information from Dotted Eyes, the leading provider of spatial data solutions.
It follows a competitive tender by the Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust - the UK’s third largest ambulance service - designed to equip frontline and control room managers with the best available digital mapping products.
The contract award is Dotted Eyes’ third major public sector procurement win in just over a year.
The company secured a landmark collective purchase agreement to supply digital maps to the NHS in May 2008 and earlier this year it won part of the wider Pan-Government Agreement, by which central government organisations source their main mapping data.
Dotted Eyes Managing Director Benjamin Allan said: ‘This third major contract win reflects our success in delivering consistency and quality with an absolute focus on the needs of the customer.
‘The Welsh Ambulance Service will benefit from fully interoperable address and transport mapping data that works across their systems to support emergency response, resource management, service planning and performance analysis.’
Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust Programme Manager Gavin Bryce said: ‘We are committed to investing in technology that supports improvements to response times to our patients at their point of need.
‘The outcome of this tendered contract marks a significant step forward and complements a number of key projects. Most notably it will support operational crews in navigation when we launch our mobile data terminals later in the year.’
The one-year contract will see the Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust using two Dotted Eyes’ datasets - Transport Map and AddressView Plus - for command and control and in mobile terminals among a fleet of 700 vehicles.
TransportMap is based on Ordnance Survey’s most detailed road network data, the OS MasterMap Integrated Transport Network Layer. TransportMap includes comprehensive restriction and advisory route information such as weight and width restrictions - ideal for vehicle fleet management.
AddressView Plus, based on OS MasterMap Address Layer 2, includes postal addresses and sub-divided buildings that have a single external letter-box but multiple occupiers. These include housing association properties and student residences. The product contains names in English and Welsh and also covers properties without any postal address where emergency response can still be required.
Dotted Eyes is a Platinum partner of Ordnance Survey. Mark Salter, Ordnance Survey’s Head of Partners and Alliances, said: ‘Ordnance Survey data plays a vital role in the work of emergency services across Great Britain. We congratulate Dotted Eyes on their success with the Welsh Ambulance Service. The contract will deliver data benefits that will support many mission-critical activities.’
The Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust employs more than 2,500 people and covers the whole of Wales. It receives £72 million in annual funding and attends more than 250,000 emergency calls a year. Its geographic extent makes it the third largest ambulance service in the UK.
