Mitigate Risks
Many large conservative organisations have recognised the benefits of using open source software, such as PostGIS and GeoServer, within their organisations. These include the French National Mapping Agency; EDINA, a huge data holder in the UK; Infoterra, a large data seller in the UK; the UN; the World Bank and LandGate in Australia. Each of these organisations has evaluated open source, and decided that the benefits outweigh any potential risk.
We understand that perceived risk is a barrier for takeup, especially in the public sector which is less likely to judge software primarily on cost of ownership. For these organisations, the perception of risk only goes away when they see big risk-averse organisations, such as those listed above, who have implemented open source.
To mitigate any risks for clients, we only select trusted software which has been endorsed by OSGeo, the industry body for open source geographic software. We provide training and support services to increase the skill levels of users, and can even work in tandem with other vendors to provide the best possible back up needed by clients.
